We encourage and teach self-discipline in our students. We want them to learn how to control their own behavior to enable them to be better learners.
We use a coupon system to help them keep track of their behavior for each week. At the beginning of each week, each student receives 3 coupons. He/She can lose coupons for not following directions, disrupting learning, being disrespectful to adults and his/her peers, or any off-task behavior. If the students have coupons left at the end of the week, we do a drawing for fun things like eating lunch in the classroom, extra computer time, extra recess time, and other rewards. Good behavior is rewarded!
If your child runs out of coupons before the week is up, the next offense usually results in losing a privilege, such as recess. Any other offenses after that will result in a phone call home to let you know what is going on in school. At this point your child has had 4 - 5 chances to correct his/her behavior. There will be office referrals for serious offenses, if needed. |
