SCHOLARSHIP SCAM INFORMATION
There are many scholarship SCAMS to avoid. Indications of problems may include:
-anyone who charges a fee for a scholarship
-anyone who guarantees you a scholarship
-anyone who wants your bank account/credit card number in order to award a scholarship
-anyone who says they will do all the work for you to get a scholarship
-anyone who says you won an award for which you did not apply
-anyone who is giving a "money back guarantee"
-anyone who is providing a seminar but pressures those in attendance to pay to sign up for the service

University Admission Fee Waivers
Admission fee waivers are available to students who have used a fee waiver for the SAT. Only certain universities are included in this fee waiver program. Further information is available in the counselors' office.
FAFSA Made Easy
DVD's from the February parent seminar "FAFSA Made Easy" are available for parents to check out from the counselors' office. The DVD is available in English and Spanish.
Texas Academy of Math and Science
Offered through University of North Texas in Denton, this is an early college entrance program for students who would like to finish their last two years of high school concurrently with their first two years of college. Applications are due February 29, 2008 and require a competitive SAT score, recommendations, and a transcript. Go to www.tams.unt.edu for more information.
Texas State University
Texas State has added three new degree programs: nursing, bachelor of general studies (combining 3 minors to make a unique major), and electrical engineering
Caterpillar, Inc.
Caterpillar is the world's largest manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, natural gas engines, and industrial gas turbines as well as a leading supplier of diesel engines. They are offering scholarships to students who are accepted at and attend Texas State Technical College in Waco. See the counselor for details.

Women in Engineering at University of Texas
YOU@UT is a program for high school senior women interested in math, science, engineering. It will be held Saturday, October, 20, 2007.
