SAT and ACT Registration Booklets are available in the counselors’ office. Study materials are also available on a limited basis. Register online for the SAT at www.collegeboard.com/. A credit card is necessary to pay the fees. Register online for the ACT at www.act.org/. A credit card is necessary to pay the fees.

THEA (Texas Higher Education Assessment) |

THEA (Texas Higher Education Assessment) is no longer providing registration bulletins to the school. To request a registration bulletin online or to register online. Go to the site listed later in this paragraph. You may also request a registration bulletin be mailed to you by calling toll free 1-866-565-4879. To be exempt from the THEA, you must have TAKS scores as follows: 2200 Math, 2200 English/Language Arts, and a 3 on the Writing. You may also be exempt with a 1070 composite SAT score (at least 500 on the math and 500 on the verbal) you may be exempt with a 23 composite on the ACT (minimum of 19 on verbal and math). Angelina's THEA exemptions for TAKS for Juniors is 2400 ELA/Math. Register online at www.thea.nesinc.com/

ANGELINA THEA INFORMATION |

Angelina recommends the ALL students take the THEA rather than the Accuplacer. They have found that entering freshmen do not do as well on computerized tests as on paper and pencil tests. If you have questions, contact the testing center at 936-633-5495.

SHSU THEA INFORMATION |

Quick THEA and Accuplacer are given Monday through Friday by appointment. Cost is $50.00 for the Accuplacer, payable upon registration. The Quick THEA cost is $59.00 - $30.00 upon registration and $29.00 on test day. Fees can be paid by credit card over the phone or by going to the SHSU Testing Center.
You must wait 30 days between tests if you are not successful in one area. The exception to this is if you take Accuplacer and then take the Quick THEA or Quick THEA and then Accuplacer. You may then re-register and take only the part in which you were unsuccessful. The registration fee, however, is still the full amount.
The Education Department at SHSU WILL NOT accept the Accuplacer for admittance into their program.
The Quick THEA and Accuplacer are given at the testing center beginning at 8:30 a.m.. The Quick THEA is about a 5-hour test with 136 questions. It is a paper and pencil test and the results come back in 1-2 weeks by mail. The Accuplacer is a computer-based test, takes approximately 3 hours, consists of about 70 questions and the results are immediate.

Fee Waivers Available |

SAT/ACT fee waivers are available in the counselors' office for students who meet the criteria. Fee waivers cannot be used for late or standby registrations except for the October test, when fee waivers use is permitted during the late registration period. As an eligible student, you can receive a total of four SAT fee waivers during your high school years - two for use on the SAT reasoning and two for the SAT subject tests. You must be a junior or a senior to apply for a fee waiver. Some of the criteria to be eligible for a fee waiver include: be receiving free or reduced lunch, live in a federally subsidized public housing project, receive public assistance, or reside in a foster home. Income guidelines are also availble to determine eligibility. ACT fee waivers are one time only, either junior or senior year.
