Our little kindergarten cubs start supporting the mighty lions early. We took pictures early this morning and wrote about lions all day. Go LIONS!! Pictures soon to follow.
We have been learning about community helpers and their roles in our community. A game warden came to visit and talked about different ways he helps our local animal populations by making sure hunters and fisherman follow the rules. We learned that a game warden is basically a police officer who's job is to help protect animals. He brought cool stuff for us to see. he also brought pins and we all got to be Honorary Texas Game Wardens. We are going to be visited by more community helpers in the coming weeks. We are learning about graphs and about how to get information about graphs. We each brought an apple to school then put them into real graphs. We learned that apples come in many different varities. Nine students brought red apples, four brought green apples, two brought Gayla apples, and one brought a golden apple. It is easier to get information from a graph than a written paragraph. (Especially since we are just now learning how to read.) Click the link below to view our graph.
Every year we ask the kindergarten students to make a poster telling the class about themselves. They give information about families, favorite colors and foods, hobbies, and vacations they have taken. Click the link below to view our posters.
We read several versions of "The Gingerbread Man," and were preparing to eat him for snack when he up and ran away. Our class searched all over the school to find him. This was a good opportunity to learn about where important places are located in our school. We finally found him in Mr. Rice's office with a huge hunk of gingerbread missing from his left knee. We finally came to the conclusion that Mr. Rice ate a piece of his leg to keep him from running away again.
Every year I try to remember to take pictures of my kids on their first day of kindergarten. MOST if my kids cooperated.....one decided he didn't want his picture until he had been here about 3 days. I love to watch the changes in my kids through out the year.
